About Four Leaf Brewing

Four Leaf is a Midwestern mellow three-barrel micro-brewery with a taproom that offers craft beer, wine, cider, mead, food and a nod to all those lucky in life; Lucky in beer is lucky enough! Located in downtown Clare, Michigan in a century-old building, this brewery has become increasingly popular and praised for its diverse, quality craft menu and community focus.

The brewery, which officially opened in August of 2015, was the inspiration of owner Amy Shindor. The idea was to build a small production brewery that would focus on quality service for the Clare County area. Amy converted the front 2,500 square feet of the historic Davis Block building in Northern Michigan to have an upscale vintage vibe.

All the hand-crafted beverages are created on-site using the highest quality malts, grains, fresh hops, locally sourced fruits and honey. With a commitment to supporting local, the brewery is proud of its Michigan-made brewing system produced by Psycho Brew Brewing Equipment located in Belding, Michigan.

Amy and the team at Four Leaf are excited for you to try one of their hand-crafted brews the next time you're in or near Clare and want you to remember...

Amy Shindorf

YOUR PROPRIETOR

Amy Shindorf is the proprietor and “chief taster” of Four Leaf Brewing—a microbrewery in historic downtown Clare, Michigan. This former environmental and natural resource specialist turned hardworking entrepreneur clearly enjoys her job.

In late 2013, Shindorf combined her small business knowledge, support team, and craft beer enthusiasm to begin a new entrepreneurial adventure. She felt she could offer her community a relaxing place to socialize and enjoy unique, hand-crafted, and locally brewed beer. She wove her knowledge of environmental stewardship into the fabric of the brewpub’s operations.

“Businesses can be easier on the environment if ingredients are locally sourced, and transportation is kept to a minimum.”

Amy is excited to announce that her husband, Gordie, as of September 2022 has retired from teaching and has joined the Four Leaf crew.

Four Leaf Brewing is now a hopping business featuring 20 taps full of beer, cider, wine & Meads, a full food menu, and an active special events schedule. Amy Shindorf sees a lucky future for Four Leaf Brewing!

Steve Swaney

YOUR BEER MEISTER

Steve’s first career was as a biochemist for Upjohn Pharmaceuticals, where he found antivirals for HIV. Over the years his work in research spanned from anti-bacterial, cancer, pain, eye diseases and third-world parasitic infections.

Lucky for us, Steve retired from the research lab to follow his passion for making craft beer. Steve received his Brewer’s Certification at Central Michigan University (CMU) in Fermentation Sciences and interned at Petoskey Brewing. Before officially joining our team, Steve had been instrumental in beer-making at Four Leaf Brewing assisting with finding talented brewers, helping with brews and providing tech support as needed. He held the position of head brewer at Hunters Ale House from 2016 until joining the Four Leaf Brewing team at the start of 2020 as our “Beer Meister.”

Steve is the proud father of CMU and University of Michigan students, and the ‘slacker’ spouse to an accounting professor at CMU. In his spare time, Steve is an Isabella County Commissioner for District 6 in Mt. Pleasant where he sits on several committees and councils in that role. Besides Steve’s passion for his family and craft beer, he also loves playing hockey, making the best coffee every morning and hanging with his dog Kylee.
